SUP Yoga Kelowna and the Summer Bucket List

by laura martini

In only a week the unofficial summer season begins here in Canada and every year it's the same; we have so many ideas about what would be fun to do and yet the season flies by and before we know it, we're shovelling our driveways again. This year I've made a list for all the yogis in or visiting the Okanagan.  Here are the 10 things you absolutely HAVE to do:

  1. Hidden Garden Yoga & Brunch on Sunday mornings with Chelsea Ray.  Located at the Minstrel Cafe in the mission, this class and breaky is the most relaxing way to start your Sunday.
  2. Weekend Workshop with Michael Stone.  Learn how to take your yoga off the mat with this incredible wise and humble yogi.  Hosted by Mission Yoga Aug. 2-4.  If you are in town, I highly suggest spending some time with this man.
  3. SUP Yoga Class with me! (Laura Martini).  With 3 classes a week running all summer, these intimate classes include board rental as well as a quick and dirty lesson on how to paddle the board.  Located at the Hotel Eldorado Marina.  Beginners are always welcome!
  4. Yoga and Brunch in the Vineyard on Sunday mornings with Tina Mandl at Cedar Creek Winery.  Get your vinyasa on and work up an appetite!
  5. An Evening with Kamini Desai.   This one night workshop entitled "Breaking the Karmic Patterns that Bind You" will help you understand Samskara (the internal aspect of Karma) and how they drive our actions to work for or against us.  Brought to you by Trinity Yoga Center, Kamini is coming all the way from Florida so you do not want to miss this!
  6. Okanagan's Largest Outdoor Yoga Class put on by Oranj Fitness.  This class is by-donation to the Kelowna Community Food Bank and will be at 9:30am on Sunday July 14.  Flow to DJ'd beats and get some good karma while you're at it.  Oh, and I am co-leading this class and thus promise nothing short of awesomeness:)
  7. Mabel Lake Yoga Retreat with Trinity Yoga Center.   Join some like-minded yogis August 16-18 for a sweet retreat on the shores of Mackenzie Lake.
  8. A regular studio yoga class with live guitar?  Say what?  Get off the boat and join Shauna Nyrose every Monday night at 7pm at Oranj Fitness for an hour long flow class accompanied by Dustin on acoustic guitar.  Yum.
  9. Goddess Retreat.  Hurry Up!  You've got a week to get yourself to the first Goddess Retreat in Comox, BC.!  A weekend retreat with your bestie full of good food and delicious yoga classes.  This one may be out of the Okanagan but it's run by current Kelowna resident Susie Newson so you're still supporting local!
  10. Plan to keep the summer fun running all year long...incorporate a 3 day Vino & Vinyasa Retreat to the Osoyoos desert in the fall or maybe plan to go on a retreat to Bali or Mexico in the dead of winter when all you want is a little summer fun:)
